The Amtrak service in Rhode Island is mostly made up of regional trains that connect the major cities and towns in the state. There are also a few high-speed Acela trains that travel through Rhode Island, making the trip from Boston to Washington, D.C. in just over three hours. The Boston commuter rail system also serves many parts of Rhode Island, providing passengers with a convenient way to get around the state.

The two Amtrak routes, from Virginia to Boston, and the high-speed Acela, from Washington D.C. to Boston, have stops at Providence, Kingston, and Westerly.

The “T” is a commuter train that runs from Providence/Warwick to Boston.

Providence (PVD) Amtrak Station

Providence (PVD) Amtrak Station is a train station located in Providence, Rhode Island. The station is served by Amtrak’s Northeast Regional and Acela Express trains, which travel to and from destinations such as Washington D.C., New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia. The Northeast Regional train offers several daily departures in each direction, while the Acela Express offers several high-speed departures in each direction.

MBTA Commuter Trains from TF Green Airport (Warwick, RI) to Boston

The T provides commuter train service from TF Green Airport in Providence / Warwick, Rhode Island, to Boston, with stops between. The T’s newest extension, which launched in 2011, offers train service from TF Green Airport to Boston with stops in Providence, South Attleboro, Mansfield, Sharon, Stoughton, Canton Center, Canton Junction, Route 128, Hyde Park, Ruggles and Back Bay in Boston. South Station is the final stop in Boston.

Westerly (WLY) Amtrak Station

The Westerly Amtrak Station is a stop on the Northeast Regional line, which travels between Boston and Washington D.C. The train departs Westerly every two hours and travels to Providence, Rhode Island, and New Haven, Connecticut before continuing on to its final destination.
